Strolling Around The "Hood"

July 20, 2013 Day 85...

Wow ! Scotty's journey with this terrible illness has now reached 85 days ! It is hard to believe everything that has happened in these crazy days ! We are still taking one day at a time and practicing alot of patience ! Deborah has learned a great appreciation for that word. As she has told me no one gets in a hurry at any of his appointments and it is nothing for her to spend hours at the LCI (Levine Cancer Institute) for what may be one appointment to turn into 2 appointments with the hurry up and wait scenario. So let me catch you up on these past 9 days. Scotty actually scolded me for not posting sooner ! LOL !! So for you Scotty here it is....... Scotty went back to the lung doctor on Friday and he removed the oxygen during the day. He will keep it for night time until the oxygen company comes out and places a monitor on him at night to record his O2 levels while he sleeps. Hopefully that will come Monday. The lung doctor was pleased with his progress and has given him the green light to start treatment for the liver. However, there are other appointments that have to take place before the treatment can start. Scotty will see the Ortho - Oncologist on Tuesday  and we are hoping they will free him of his brace. The brace has become very uncomfortable and really doesn't fit him due to his weight loss. That isn't the only thing that doesn't fit anymore ! Don't be surprised if you visit Scotty and he accidentally moons you !! Kristin got a good flash from her Uncle Scotty on a recent visit with him. She said she didn't know who was the most embarrassed him or her !! We got a good laugh out of that. Peter the PT is back from vacation and he is back going full speed with Scotty. They took a short walk around the neighborhood this week and he told Scotty if the ortho-oncologist will allow him to take the brace off he will have him in the pool real soon ! And that will be awesome ! Scotty loves his pool ! On July 30th we will be at the LCI for an all day affair. He will have lab work,  receive a bone treatment and have an appointment with his medical oncologist and Palliative Care. That will be a big day filled with lots of information. Deborah and I will take a book to read and a picnic lunch ! Ha ! Ha !

Scotty is back helping around the house ! He has washed dishes and loves to take your plate before you are finished. Lol ! That is all he can do at this time but that is a big help. He has sorted the medical bills and is keeping them organized ! Some of his co-workers have squeezed a visit in for him and so has his family. He loves visitors and it really helps him stay connected. SO if you have time stop by and visit with Scotty.

Deborah will soon be starting to organize her classroom for the next school year. She is in the process of trying to get some help for them when she goes back to work. Noah will be attending Rawlinson Road and Deborah will need assistance getting him ready for school and taking him. In a perfect world Scotty would have been the one to do this as he always has in the past. Noah continues to receive therapy and we are hoping he will become more adjusted to the changes in his life.

So that is the update for now and after the appointment on Tuesday I will post a new blog. Please continue to pray for Scotty to regain his strength so he can start the treatment to the Liver. Pray Deborah will be able to find the assistance she needs for helping with Noah and pray for her overall strength while dealing with the situation. Please pray for Noah to  become better adjusted and to have the ability to understand what is going on.
